Shakugan no Shana

Genre: Action, Drama, Romance
Episodes: 76 episodes through 3 seasons

Synopsis: The world has become a slaughtering ground for the Crimson Denizens, mysterious beings from a parallel universe who thrive on the life energy of humans. These merciless murderers only leave behind scant remainders of souls called, "torches", which are mere residues that will eventually be destroyed, along with the very fact of the victims' existence from the minds of the living. In an ambitious endeavor to put an end to this invincible, hungry massacre, warriors called Flame Hazes relentlessly fight these monsters.

Opinion: If you are looking for a mysterious anime that keeps you guessing, this is the one for you. The graphics are done very nicely. The action is very intriguing but the plot can difficult to understand at time. The anime has been going on for quite some time and received many positive ratings along the way such as being ranked #70 on the top anime's list. Despite the plot being difficult to understand at times, this anime still finds a way to be intriguing.

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

Genre: Action, Drama, Fantasy

Seasons/Episodes: Ongoing

Synopsis: As the world is in the middle of an industrial revolution, a monster appears that cannot be defeated unless its heart, which is protected by a layer of iron, is pierced. By infecting humans with its bite, the monster can create aggressive and undead creatures known as Kabane. On the island Hinomoto, located in the far east, people have built stations to shelter themselves from these creatures. People access the station, as well as transport wares between them, with the help of a locomotive running on steam, called Hayajiro. Ikoma, a boy who lives in the Aragane station and helps to build Hayajiro, creates his own weapon called Tsuranukizutsu in order to defeat the creatures. One day, as he waits for an opportunity to use his weapon, he meets a girl named Mumei, who is excused from the mandatory Kabane inspection. During the night, Ikoma meets Mumei again as he sees Hayajiro going out of control. The staff on the locomotive has turned into the creatures. The station, now under attack by Kabane, is the opportunity Ikoma has been looking for.

Opinion: Although the anime isn't complete yet, this show has provided with an interesting show to watch. The plot is not original since it contains the same apocalyptic setting as others. Despite that, it manages to still bring a story that captures the viewer's interest. The characters are somewhat poor. They have yet to bring character development even though they are on episode 9. I would like it if the story trailed off from what I expect it to be and provide the viewers with a plot twist. The soundtrack, especially the OST, fits into the anime extremely well.

Nagi No Asukara

Genre: Drama, Fantasy, Romance, Seinen

Episodes: 26 episodes

Synopsis: Long ago, humanity lived in the sea. But the humans who longed for the land left the sea behind. They cast aside the special raiment they'd been given by the sea god that let them live in the ocean. The thinking of the sea humans and the land humans became as separate as the places they lived, and as countless time passed, they forgot they were once one people. This will change as the land-dwelling human Tsumugu Kihara befriends four children who live in a village at the bottom of the sea.

Opinion: I really like this anime because it shows how the interaction between two sides that aren't similar but still have things in common. Especially when one person on 1 side falls in love with someone from the other side. This anime also has a huge time leap in the series that I don't see a lot off in other anime and it handles it really well making the viewers question everything they once knew about the anime.

PS: This will be our last posts as we are soon moving to our senior year, so for the nones of you out that are waiting for our posts, this is the end.

Terror in Resonance

Title: Terror in Resonance

Genre: Detective, Mystery, Thriller

Episodes/Chapters: 11 episodes

Synopsis: In an alternate iteration of the present, Tokyo has been hit by a terrorist attack that has devastated the city. The only evidence of the culprits is a cryptic video uploaded to the Internet, which sparks paranoia across Japan. Unbeknownst to the authorities is that the terrorist masterminds—who call themselves "Sphinx" (スピンクス Supinkusu)—are two teenaged boys who go by the names Nine and Twelve. Though they apparently should not exist, they have nonetheless decided to "wake up the world" with their heinous plans of destruction, with their fingers on the trigger.

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terror_in_Resonance

Opinion: Finding a short yet interesting anime to munch on in your free time is difficult and tiring. Terror in Resonance, with eleven roughly 20-minute episodes, is ideal for those who want spare a couple minutes a day. For those who are busy, and who are interested in the unique plot, this is an immaculate time spender in which the time you spend will be well spend. A turn from sweet, innocence and heavily overpowered protagonists, Terror in Resonance will resonance with naked energy and emotion, filling you with suspense and pushing you to the edge of fascination.

Title: Code Geass

Genre: Mecha, sci-fi, psychological, and action

Episodes: 25

Synopsis: The story is set in an alternative timeline where the world has become split into three superpowers: the Holy Britannian Empire (the Americas; also called Britannia), the Chinese Federation (Asia), and the European Union (Europe and Africa; previously known as the Euro-Universe). The story takes place after the Holy Britannian Empire's conquest on Japan on August 10, 2010 a.t.b., by means of Britannia's newest weapon, the "Autonomous Armored Knight", or Knightmare Frame. In turn, Britannia effectively strips Japan and its citizens of all rights and freedoms and renames the country Area 11 with its citizens referred to as Elevens.

Lelouch vi Britannia is an exiled Britannian prince who was sent as a bargaining tool to Japan, along with his sister Nunnally vi Britannia, by his father, Emperor Charles zi Britannia, after his mother, Marianne vi Britannia, was killed. Nunnally witnessed the murder of her mother Marianne, which caused her to lose both her sight and ability to walk. This makes it difficult for Lelouch because he must take care of her while on the run in Japan during the war. After the war in the ruins of a Japanese city he then vows to his Japanese friend Suzaku Kururugi that he will one day obliterate Britannia.

Seven years later, Lelouch, now a popular yet withdrawn student at Ashford Academy by the name of Lelouch Lamperouge gets caught up in a terrorist attack and finds a girl called C.C. (C2), who saves Lelouch's life from the Britannian Royal Guard, by making a contract with him that grants Lelouch a power known as Geass (ギアス giasu?). This power, also known as the "Power of Kings" (王の力 Ō no Chikara?), allows him to command anyone to do whatever he wants, whether bending their will to live, fight, or die on his behalf –though only once and only through direct eye contact. Lelouch decides to put his Geass to use and find the person who killed his mother, destroy the Britannian Empire, and to create a better world where Nunnally can live happily. In the process, Lelouch becomes Zero, a masked vigilante and the leader of the resistance movement known as The Black Knights, gaining popularity and support among the Japanese on his way towards the rebellion of Britannia. However, this does not come without a cost. Caught up in a conflict where he does not know the full extent of his powers, Lelouch will have to battle Suzaku, a resistance member named Kallen Stadtfeld, the strongest army in the world, his own half-siblings, and many others in a battle that will forever change the world.

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_Geass

Opinion: The idea of a simple, ordinary boy inheriting a power to control the minds of others-- to the point of being able to make them kill themselves or others-- and putting it to use by destroying the malice of Britannian empire is provocative. What can a boy barely 18 years of age do against an armada of troops and weapons and arguably the most powerful nation in the know world? Except he does that and more. Through sequels, Lelouch becomes one of the most powerful men of the world but is met with a string of difficult, which later results in his death.

Black Bullet

Genre: Action, Science Fiction

Episodes: 1 season with 13 episodes

The only thing that is capable of withholding the virus infected monsters is a metal called Varanium. The city walls and the weapons mankind uses to fight against these monsters are made of it. Despite efforts of keeping "Gastrea" at bay, children were soon born with the virus already inside of them. Children born with the virus were called "Cursed Children", were only female and had special powers which humanity deemed as their best weapon to fight against Gastrea monsters.

Opinion:  I, personally, haven't watched this show but it sounds very interesting and was listed 45 on the most popular anime's which is quite impressive. It got excellent ratings and has had many requests for a second season which is currently in the works. The show has a unique plot which makes it isolated from other anime's. This is what makes it interesting for me and I am looking forward to watching it. If you are looking for an anime with an interesting plot, this is the one for you.

Re: Life is a different world from zero

Genre: Fantasy, Drama

Seasons/Episodes: Ongoing

Synopsis: Subaru Natsuki is brought to an alternate world where he doesn't know his location or who brought him there. While traveling around the area, he was attacked but a mysterious silver haired girl saved him. Subaru decides to help her find an item that was stolen from her to show his gratitude. However, when they finally found a lead, Subaru and the girl were attacked and killed. Subaru wakes up and finds out that he is at his original starting location from when he was brought to the world. He realizes that time was turned back and that he is the only one who has any memory of what is to come in the future. He goes on a journey to help save the girl that had once saved him.

Opinion: This anime is a recent one that started in the spring. It has a lot of mystery to the plot which makes the viewer interested with what happens next. Each episode leaves reader on the edge of the seat and makes them wonder what will happen next. There are small bits of romance which is actually pretty adorable and provides comic relief at times. We can see character development with how Subaru changes each time he is brought to the start of each life. It's an interesting anime that I can't wait to see how it will end.

Charlotte

Genre: Drama, Magic, School Life, Tragedy

Episodes: 13 Episodes

Synopsis: Special abilities occur among a small percentage of boys and girls in puberty. Yuu Otosaka, who has the ability to take transfer his mind to someone else but only for a few seconds, abuses his powers to get what he wants like, answers to a test or saving a damsel in distress. Then appears a girl, Nao Tomori, who has the ability to be invisible but only towards one person. Due to his meeting with her, the fate of special power-users will be exposed.

Opinion: At first I wasn't that into this anime because of how Otosaka abuses his power to get what he wants but I guess that is simulating how if people had special abilities, they would abuse it too. After a few episodes I began to get more into this anime but was ruin by the fact that there is time travel. Time travel is always a delicate matter because of how confusing it is and is usually just a way for there to be a happy ending where no one dies. The ending was a bit unsatisfying because of how rushed it felt like. I felt that they had enough story to extend it to make this anime a 24 episodes series. Overall I enjoyed watching this anime but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece.

Death Note

Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Drama

Episodes: 1 season with 37 episodes

Synopsis: Light Yagami is a genius high  schooler who discovers the "Death Note", a notebook that kills anyone whose name is written in it. After experiencing with the notebook through several different ways, Light meets the Shinigami Ryuk, the notebook's original owner, who dropped the notebook to a human out of boredom. Light tells Ryuk of his plan to rule over a new world free from criminals as a god, where only people he deems morally fit to live remain. Light eventually becomes known to the public as "Kira", which is derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the word "killer".

Opinion:  Death Note is very intriguing and mysterious. The first episode gets you hooked and makes you want to watch the next one and so forth. The animation is done very nicely. The story is intriguing and keeps bringing you back. The second season has no scheduled release date so far but it has been quite a while since the last episode aired. If you are looking for a mysterious anime with an interesting plot, then this is the show for you.

Mondaiji-tachi Ga Isekai Kara Kuru Sou Desu Yo?

Genre: Comedy, Demons, Fantasy, Mystery, Supernatural

Episodes: 10 episodes

Synopsis: The story follows Sakamaki Izayoi, a boy bored with the entire world. One day, an envelope arrives for him which transports him to an alternate world. There, he discovers that two other problem children were transported by envelopes as well Kasukabe You and Kudou Asuka who like him have supernatural powers. A girl named Kuro Usagi also known as Black Rabbit summoned the three to the community No Name to overthrow the devil.

Opinion: I really like this anime because it doesn't follow the norm of the main character working throughout the series to get stronger but rather being the strongest right from the get go. Which interested me because is able to solve all the conflicts by himself but he rather let his teammates fight the battles. This anime is also very similar to No Game No Life with how games are the only way to solve conflicts in the world, so if you like No Game No Life then I would suggest trying this anime out and vice versa.

Future Diary a.k.a Mirai Nikki

Genre: Science fiction, romance, action

Episodes/Chapters: 11/3 Volumes

Synopsis: (Spoliers included!!!!)
Yukiteru Amano, or "Yuki," lived as an introvert, writing a diary on his cell phone and talking with imagery friends--or so he thought. One day, he was brought to light about a survival game; a special battle royale that involves eleven contestants with individual special powers involving their phones and prediction of the future. Unbelieving and incredulous, Yuki denies the matter-of-fact but eventually succumbs to the truth. Later, he meets Yuno Gasai and is forced to team up with her, as he is one of the first to be targeted. Gradually, as they work together, Yuno and Yuki become ever closer and their sincerely growing. Yuki is innocent and surprised of Yuno's insanity and egregious desire to sacrifice anything in the way of her dreams. Later, Yuki's parents are killed and Yuki turns into an alike version of Yuno--ruthless, unforgiving. They team up and kill every last participant, leaving them the only two. Yuki's friends try to convince him that Yuno has ulterior motives and that she is the god of time and space. He doesn't listen and that directly results in their deaths. Their deaths eclipse something in Yuki and he starts to doubt Yuno's sincerity. Yuki finds out part of the truth, enough to seriously doubt Yuno but keeps it to himself until Murmur, Yuno's servant gave to her by Deus, tells him the truth. Yuno transport herself there and argues with Yuki over the truths, half-truths, and lies. Yuno tries to kill Yuki to restart the world but Minene, the supposed to be dead 9th contestant, comes and saves Yuki. Yuno decides to restart the world anyway, but surprisingly Yuki and Minene follow her through the time and space portal. Yuki reveals his feelings for Yuno and tells her to kill him and start a new world filled with happiness; Yuno kills herself and Yuki becomes the new god of time and space. After 10,000 years of mourning for Yuno, he found himself in the third world, where Yuno lives with her memories intact; they marry and find love.

Opinion:
One of the best binge watching animes for me. The unique, interesting plot is an eye catcher as well as the peculiar romance between the two leads. Survival stories involves good character and plot development while maintaining the readers' or watchers' interest in the storyline. The survival aspect of the anime plainly shows the worse and best of humans--fear, greed, yet compassion. The anime itself is not that long--with only 11 episodes as part of the original anime-- and it's cut before things get too boring or overdrawn.

Kamisama Hajimemashita

Genre: Romantic, Comedy, Fantasy

Seasons/Episodes: 2 seasons with 25 episodes in total

Synopsis: Nanami Momozono dreams of living a normal life, just like any other average high school girl. Instead, she must cope with the fact that her deadbeat father accumulated a bunch of gambling debts and abandoned her. And since she can't afford to pay the rent, she's now homeless. Despite this unfortunate turn of events, Nanami still maintains a kind heart.

One day in the park, she saves a poor man from a vicious attack, and in a perfect example of how good deeds are rewarded, the man thanks her by giving her his home. The offer sounds suspicious, but beggars can't be choosers. When Nanami arrives at the man's home, however, she discovers it isn't a house at all. It's a shrine. She learns that the man she saved was actually a god and that by giving her his home, she has now assumed his godhood and all of the duties that go along with it.

The role seems daunting but it turns out that the previous god had a familiar named Tomoe. A powerful and skilled fox demon, Tomoe should be able to help Nanami transition into her new role as a deity... if the two of them don't kill each other first, that is. Kamisama Hajimemashita follows Nanami's life as a human god, her quest to win Tomoe's trust, and the romantic feelings she develops for him along the way.

Opinion: Although the plot of the story is cliche, this anime brings a light story about romance. Some parts of the story are predictable but it does have some interesting features. One of these features is the soundtrack. The soundtrack contains bright and energetic music that will captivate the viewers. Additionally, there is also some interesting character development in the story with the familiar Tomoe. Overall, this anime is a good one to watch if you're looking for a romance series that is easy and enjoyable to watch.

Tokyo Ghoul

Genre:Action, Drama, Horror, Mystery, Psychological, Seinen, Supernatural

Episodes:12 episodes with a sequel

Synopsis: In modern day Tokyo, society lives in fear of Ghouls: mysterious creatures who look exactly like humans -- yet hunger insatiably for their flesh. None of this matters to Ken Kaneki, a bookish and ordinary young man, until a dark and violent encounter turns him into the first ever Ghoul-human half breed. Trapped between two worlds, Ken must survive the violent conflicts of warring Ghoul factions, while attempting to learn more about Ghoul society, his newfound powers, and the fine line between man and monster.

Opinion: This anime was a recommendation from a friend, however I was reluctant on watching it because of the horror factor. So I watched the censored version which might have ruined the experience but I still very enjoyed watching it. I found this anime very interesting with the existence of 2 species that are constantly at each others' throats but with the existence of someone that has the ability to see from both points of view what would happen.

Kimi no na wa

Genre: Mystery, High school, and Romance

Seasons/Episodes: N/A

Synopsis: The Kimi no Na wa. film's "story of miracles and love" revolves around Mitsuha and Taki. Mitsuha is a female high school student who lives in a rural town nestled deep in the mountains. He spends time with his friends, works part-time at an Italian restaurant, and is interested in architecture and fine arts. One day, Mitsuha has a dream where she is a young man. Opinion: From one of my all time favorite anime producer/writer, and previous storyline maker of 5 Centimeters Per Second, Makoto Shinkai, comes a new, unique and thrilling movie named Kimi no na wa. The movie's plot is interesting and raises an unique question about the differences in lifestyles between two of the protagonists. From the synopsis, you get a feel for the shape of the plot and characters but there's an air of mystery behind the plot--ending the blurb with a question, perhaps rhetorical. Maybe, there's a switch of bodies or minds with a hint of romance like in Koroko Connect and Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches. The novel is published and a movie adaption is already in the talks with interesting sound tracks made by RADWIMPS.

Code Geass

The story takes place after the Holy Britannian Empire's conquest on Japan on August 10, 2010, by means of Brittania's newest weapon. Britain stripped Japan and its citizens of all rights and freedoms and renames the country Area 11 with its citizens referred to as Elevens,

Opinion: If you are looking for a scientific and fantasy related anime, this is the one for you. The story is intriguing and there is a lot of action which takes place which makes the show more interesting and enjoyable to watch. The show received great ratings as well. The plot is intriguing and its a type of show that keeps bringing you back.

Noragami

Just as things seem to be looking grim for the god, his fortune changes when a middle school girl, Hiyori Iki, supposedly saves Yato from a car accident, taking the hit for him. Remarkably, she survives, but the event has caused her soul to become loose and hence able to leave her body. Hiyori demands that Yato return her to normal, but upon learning that he needs a new partner to do so, reluctantly agrees to help him find one. And with Hiyori's help, Yato's luck may finally be turning around.

Opinion:  This show is entertaining to watch. The first episodes grasps your attention and gets you hooked into the show. The plot is humorous but can also get serious at some times. This helps build up tension until it reaches the climax of the show. Each character in the show is different and have their own backstory that is learned after watching the show. They are able to develop with each episode to surpass the problems that have impacted them. I have grown to be fond of these characters and how they progress throughout the anime.

Opinion: I found this show very intriguing and it was unique. The action and graphic designing that went behind the show was fantastic. The plot is interesting and brings you back because you want to know what happens next. The characters are each unique in their own way which makes this show that much more fun to watch. If you are looking for an anime with a good plot and good action this is the anime for you.

Your Lie in April (Shigatsu Wa Kimi No Uso)

Genre: Comedy, Drama, Music, Romance, School Life

Together, they begin to enter competitions and Kousei's life is able to move forward again.

Opinion: This anime has an amazing soundtrack. Although it contains classical music, the producers put a spin to the music to make it more interesting. The plot is also interesting because it explains how Kousei's life is beginning to develop. We get to see character development and how they move past their own difficulties. The animation is brilliant because the colors used add on to the animation. Overall, the anime was a pleasure to watch.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

Genres: Horror, Mystery, Psychological, Supernatural, Thriller

Episodes: 26 episodes with 4 other sequels

Synopsis: Maebara Keiichi who has recently moved into Hinamizawa, spends his days in school playing games with his local friends. However, he soon discovers a murder that had occurred in Hinamizawa and the town that he thought was quiet quickly became horrifying.

Opinion: At first going into this anime I wasn't too sure because I was never a fan of horror however as I watched more and more I was pulled into to how crazy things actually are. I was confused with how ever few episodes everything returned to normal as if nothing had happened but finally understood it after watching the whole series. So my suggestion is if you want to watch this anime think more of it as short stories in a collection, like those books with a collection of stories packed into one book.

The master will fight along side with their servants each belonging to a certain class, rider, saber, archer, caster, assassin, lancer, and berserker. These servants are heroic spirits and divine spirit that are summoned for the sole purpose of fighting in the war.

Opinion:
This anime has one of the most intense action sequences I have ever seen the music that come with are phenomenal . As you watch this anime you begin to learn the motives behind each master and servant and begin to be conflicted as to which one of them you are hoping to win.

Kyuubey offers to grant any wish she desires but in exchange she will need to become a magical girl who fights witches. She goes off on an adventure to make a choice between whether she will accept his proposition or not.

Opinion: Although this anime seems to be another typical girly story, it's a lot more than that. The story line has a lot of plot twists which gets the viewer captivated and interested to watch more. It will definitely leave a scene worth remembering while teaching you not to judge an anime by its appearance.

Psycho-Pass

Genre: Crime Fiction, Cyber Punk

Episodes: Season 1: 22 episodes. Season 2: 11 episodes

Synopsis: The plot focuses on Akana Tsunemori, a new inspector at Unit one. Tsunemori hunts criminals alongside a special team of so called latent criminals called Enforcers. There are two groups that are important throughout this show/anime and they are the Enforcers and Inspectors. Enforcers are the criminals who do bad deeds. The Inspectors are the people who stop the Enforcers if they are doing something wrong, similar to cops.

Opinion: This anime is very unique and intriguing as the story keeps getting better and better. The show was top 15 in the most popular anime's list in 2014 and they received great ratings for it as well. Although there have only been 33 episodes in total, its still very catchy and it keeps bringing you back. I recommend this show to anyone who is into crime related shows as you do not see many in anime.

Eyeshield 21

Genres: Sports and Drama

Season/Episodes: 145 episodes

 Synopsis:
The protagonist Sena Kobayakawa was an introvert who was bullied all the way up until high school. While doing chores and exercises for the benefit of his bullies in a rapid succession, he intervertedly propelled his athletic ability to new highs. He was forced to join his school's football team and played under the pseudonym, Eyeshield 21, after a series of problems unfold and the captain threatens him. His apprehension gradually fades away, and Sena feels new life by playing football. He gradually gets more experience, practicing on and off the field with unique enemies and rivals facing him. Very Americanized film.

Opinion:
Eyeshield 21 is one of my all time favorite animes to watch. With fast paced action combined with comedy, Eyeshield 21 embodies the idea of a great sports anime with some comic relief to make things a tad bit unpredictable. With over 140 episodes, Eyeshield 21 is great for binge watchers and those who want a prolonged plot to bring out the talents of the characters. I watched it before I got into anime, and even to this day I feel an emotional attachment to the anime.
